Flying and Riding

I probably like flying and riding motorcycles more than any other activities.  These two hobbies have been a constant in my life since I took my first flight in a Chipmunk with the Air Cadets  in 1968.

Motorcycles and air planes have captured my imagination since I was a child.  I have learnt to ride a bike and achieved Chief Instructor status back in the 1980s as a Star Rider instructor.  I started as an instructor at Epsom and later appointed as CI at Hayes, Middlesex.  I resigned from that site only because work commitments kept me overseas too often to be give the site the attention it needed but in my time there, I saw about 200 new motorcyclists take to the road and successfully pass their motorcycle tests.  I say tests because, for those of you who do not ride, the test requires new motorcyclists to progress from low powered machines in a graduated way.  Unlike car drivers, we have to ‘learn the skills’ before we are allowed to ride the most powerful machines.

You will also find references to the Ride til we Rot Society or ‘Rotters’.  This group of generous people help those who have suffered a fall get back in the saddle.  I will support this group

Jet Provost

My darling wife, Dee, bought me a flight in this wonderful plane.  It was quite an experience.  I like flying aerobatics and this bad boy is more than capable.  Limited to about 6g but believe me, that is plenty for anyone who doesn’t fly for  the RAF

The Best Flying in the World

I learnt to fly gliders in the Air Cadets but went solo at the London Gliding Club in Dunstable

France

The ‘boys on bikes’ trip to France.

A really nice, high octane, high speed ride through Normandy and surrounding area with Mike and Nik.  I had great fun.  Yes we probably rode too fast and broke a limit or two but hey; you only live once but if you do it right, once is enough.
